Hey Dreamers,
Here at Queering Dreams, along with our co-creators Juan Carlos Escobedo, Midori, Trayvon Smith, and blkcowrie after a year and a half of plotting and planning, we are about to officially welcome our first cohort of Artist Fellows. Yay, it’s been a long process, sometimes a difficult process, but the virtual doors of Queer Art School will open on July 21st 2023. That’s just around the corner.
We had our two QiQis and over 60 Queer and Trans folks showed up to get the details about Queer Art School. We received over 20 applications and from those 20 applicants, we now have a cohort of twelve, who will be taking this journey with us in building new spaces by and for Queers and Trans folk to support each other in our artistic endeavors, to learn from and teach each other outside of oppressive and narrow systems.
Queer Art School embraces the core tenets of the Solidarity Economy. Our budget prioritizes first paying low-income or poor artists for their involvement. Second, we will pay the Founding Fellows for their labor. Finally, we use additional funds to pay for incidental costs.
If you believe as we do, in the transformative power & capacity of art to move us, fortify us, uplift us & to bring us together in dark times, join us in creating a world where queer artists can thrive and be their whole selves.
Here's HOW YOU CAN HELP:
DONATE in any amount from $5 to $50 to $500 to $5000. All contributions are welcome and go towards paying Queer Artists for their time and contribution. All donations are also tax deductible.
AMPLIFY Queer Art School by sharing this post and asking folks in your networks to donate and spread the word.
So far we have received $2645 in donations. We are over halfway to our first fundraising goal to pay participants. Help us get over the hump!
School is getting back in session. Workshops are starting up. And we're here to facilitate spaces for dreaming with teaching artists about putting equity and belonging into practice.
We've made a short survey to ensure we're creating something helpful. Please click through & share your responses. We are tailoring a workshop in August 2023 specifically for teaching artists working alongside, within, and among youth, elder, Black, Indigenous, immigrant, queer, and trans communities.
